Eggers and Personal Biography

"We are the bright new stars born of a screaming black hole, the nascent suns burst from the darkness, from the grasping void of space that folds and swallows--a darkness that would devour anyone not as strong as we" (Eggers 127).

This quote reminds of the Mellix quote on the last blog (by the way, there are some thoughtful exchanges going on in the comments you made on the last blog entry). Be thinking about its meanings and other quotes from the piece. We'll cover Eggers some more on Tuesday. Can we consider it a memoir? And how do we understand Eggers voice in the piece? How does he use irony to convey meaning? There is a short interview with Eggers in the Media Room for those that are interested.

Excellent work today in the computer lab. Many of you are already familiar with working in computers this way, and those that are less experienced, you'll find this old hat in no time. I have been reading through some of the bios and finding some great writing going on. Take some time to get know your class mates and read each others work--I think you'll find we have a very diverse class--not only in terms of race but also in terms of ideas (referring to Rodriguez). And also spend some time reading over the posts from the last blog posting. Its refreashing to read everyones thoughts rather than just the thoughts of the initial posting. It is also a good way to see the creation of shared knowledge in action.
